Bulletin #2

0. Generalities.

Please, find general information, including preliminary list of participants, at the QUARKS-2004 main page.

1. Dates and place.

The Seminar will be held on May 24-30, 2004 at the hotel "Pushkinogorie" (600 km from Moscow, not far from the town of Pskov). Arrival date to hotel "Pushkinogorie" is May 24; the participants are supposed to catch the night train to Pskov on May 23 (see arrival details below). Departure from "Pushkinogorie" to Moscow is on May 30, presumably by a night train, with arrival to Moscow in the morning of May 31.

2. Visas and invitations.

Russian visa will be issued by the Consulate on the basis of the invitation which we will send to you. We will send you electronic version of this invitation by E-mail, and, if necessary, hard copy by express mail. Note that some consulates do not issue visas on the basis of the electronic form while some do.

To arrange for this invitation, we need the information listed in the Registration form as soon as possible. We kindly ask you to fill in the form, even in case you have already filled in the Application form: the Registration form has extra fields required by Consulates). Please, provide us also with the Registration form for each of the accompanying persons. If you have any problems with this form please get in touch with us via E-mail as soon as possible.

In case you need an official invitation for other purposes than visa, please contact us.

If you plan to give a talk at the Seminar please do not forget to include its preliminary title in the Registration form.

Russian participants should fill in the Registration form for russian participants.

5. Arrival at Pushkinogorie.

We will purchase the train tickets for foreign participants, who should arrive to Moscow not later than morning of May 23. Buses will take them from the hotel "Sputnik" to the Leningradsky train station in Moscow in order to catch the 20.00 train to Pskov. We will provide the train tickets. Transportation from Pskov to the hotel "Pushkinogorie" will be provided by buses in the morning of May 24.

In the same time, we neither purchase nor book train tickets for russian participants. We highly recommend to come and leave the site of the Seminar with the main group. To do this, please, buy tickets on the train N10A, "Moscow-Pskov", to departure for Pskov on May 23, 19:55. Back tickets should be purchased on the train N10ch, "Pskov-Moscow", on May 30th, 18:00.

Buses will be waiting for the main group of participants at the Pskov railway station in the morning of May 24, to take them to the hotel "Pushkinogorie". In the evening of May 30 these busses will give such participants a ride back to the railway station.

Please, let us know whether you are going to come with the main group of participants. In the case you are unable to do so, use the regular buses which circulate between Pskov and Pushkin Hills. In this case we will provide you with the relevant information.

An alternative way to get to the hotel "Pushkinogorie" is by car. Moving from Moscow, one drives approximately 565 km along the "Moscow-Riga" highway (M9), passes the town of Pustoshki, and then takes turn to the north, to the "Kiev-St.Peterburg" highway (M20). After 105 km. along the highway M20 one reaches Novgorodka, takes turn to the east, and finally comes to Pushkin Hills after 692 km. of driving.

6. Money.

Money exchange (US dollars and Euro) is possible in various banks. 1 USD is equal to approximately 28 roubles, 1 Euro = 34 roubles. Though currencies other than US dollars and Euro can be exchanged in some Moscow banks, the rates are very unfavourable. We recommend you to bring cash rather than credit cards or travellers checks, since there are only few places in Moscow where credit cards or travellers checks are acceptable. Credit cards and travellers checks are useless at hotel "Pushkinogorie" and in Pskov. There is also money exchange in ten minutes of walk from the hotel "Pushkinogorie".

7. Weather.

Usually the weather in the end of May is warm (+15 to +25 degrees Celsius) and sunny, but some cool (+10) and rainy days are still possible.

8. Social programme.

Social programme of the Seminar includes excursions to National Estate Museum of A.S. Pushkin and to Pskov. At Pushkinogorie, an excursion is planned to village of Mihailovskoye, estate of Pushkin and his family. There also will be an all-day trip to the historical centre of Pskov (with visits to Pskov Kremlin and ancient cathedrals, Isborsk and possibly Pechory).

7. Internet and E-mail.

Access to Internet and E-mail will not be available during the stay at Pushkinogorie.

9. Feel free to contact us.
